Tired. One more damned day. Just one. Surprisingly NOT stressed about anatomy Friday. In other news, my ankle is blacker and bluer than before, and is bothering me. The doc said she'd have a radiologist read my films, and I wonder if that ever happened. Thinking I may have cracked a bone or something. Just a little bummed that my SF trip will contain less walking than I'd have liked, it's all public transit. I should rent a bike or something. Ooh, yeah, that's what I'll do. Awesome. Gonna spend at least a few hours reading in GG park, Jill loaned me "house of God," which everyone says is a great book. OK, sleepytime now.

The newest Taking Back Sunday CD is great. Borrowed some CD's from Party Dan next door since I reached a burnout point at 9:00 this evening. Just can't study physio anymore. This is by far the biggest test (in terms of material covered and detail) I've ever taken. Thankfully it's only 20% of my grade... Important stuff though.
So I made around 8 phone calls today, left 4 messages, and none were returned. I do that too, but I'm going to stop, because it sucks not getting called back. The sprained ankle is getting better, I'm limping around, and have been lifting more since I can't do any cardio or raquetball. My ankle is still a little black and blue, but it feels a little better. Boner move of the month: bouncing a $6,000 check to the university. Fucking awesome. $100 in fees for that one... D'oh. I shaved a handlebar mustache this evening, it looks really bad with my face and general appearance, but I couldn't waste 3 weeks of growth without looking white trash. Probably getting rid of all the face hair tomorrow. Oh, tomorrow. Going to get ass-raped by a standardized test, then be free. Free to start studying for the next one in three days for which I'm currently less prepared than any test of med school so far. More coffee, less sleep, less life. Until Friday, sweet Friday.
Can't wait.

So i am sitting at my desk with my feet up, a symbolic position of rest and relaxation when in reality that's the last thing I should be doing. I'm also eating frozen tiramisu, which was homemade my my friend who learned the recipe from her italin ahost mother in florence, which i also should not be doing. today sucked. took the national exam for histology (study of tissues=boring) which was really hard, but every one sucked so i'm not worried. then i proceeded to snap my ankle out of place and sprain the shit out of it at the arc playing raquetball. PERFECT. Why, you ask?
1. i have NO fodd in my house and now i'm considering taking one of those rascal-type carts around Albertson's.
2. i have the most studying in my life to do the next 2 weeks.
3. there was actually a splinting workshop at schoool tonight, so i drove/hobbled on borrowed crutches and served as an example to the group. got a free posterior ankle splint. sweet, free medical advice and supplies. advice: get an xray and dont walk on it for 2 weeks. fucking great. we'll see how long it takes me to walk. got too much shit to do to be non-weight-bearing. until then, tiramisu and ibuprofen will have to suffice.
also, randomness: saw Karen (Ayre) and jarod at Diedrich's today. I thought it was her from a distance, but thought "wait, she's in cincinati." On break, apparently. loves med school, hates cincinati. glad i'm here, even on the mean streets of the 'vine...

anyway, otherwise stuff is going well.
had a sweet band practice yesterday where adam and i traded instruments for "Santeria."
Next fever show: April 1, Vista del Campo. Be there!
i will survive (visual of kiira and lizzy dancing the dance)

Quick blog from the place I swore I'd never hang out in med school: the Science Library. It's quiet, and at the rate I am studying lately I burn out on a study location after a few days. Let's review: student lounge at school, hard core quiet cubicle room at school, various friends' houses, my room in VDC, Grad lounge at VDC, undergrad lounge at VDC, science library, main library, student center, 5 Starbucks, 3 Diedrichs, 2 Coffee Beans, a Barnes and Noble, and a partridge in a fucking pear tree.
So I met this really cute girl at Starbucks who is almost my age, a graduated enginerd, and a Startbucks coffee pourere who wants to go back to school to get her teaching credentials. Did I mention she's cute as hell? Problem is I have no time or desire to start any kind of relationship, so I am anti-talking to girls for the time being.
St. Patty's day passed as I went to the IM soccer game, drank half a beer, passed on going out due to antosocial/impatient tendencies at that moment, studied until midnight (reasonably late, for me anyway...) and crashed.
Two more days until big test #1, then 8 days from then until big test #2 (more important), then 4 until big test #3 (the 3 we've already had this month were weak sauce in comparison).
I'm trying to work out a show/bbq/sloshball extraviganza from Friday 4/1, our last day of school. If you're reading this, you're invited.

Special early morning blog.
Yesterday at the HB public library I gasped and inhaled gum. After what seemed like 5 minutes of noise-making and attempted self-heimlech, I guess i swallowed it, but it seemed like I migh have breathed it deep into my lungs. Scary. In the process I swallowed a liter or so of air, then proceeded to burp it out for the rest of the night.
Basically studied all day, partially at UCI Starbucks, then to the HB library. Found a great little Italian deli in the HB near the library that served cold baked beans. Weird but good (the deli, NOT the cold beans). then went home for dinner with the folks. Came back to the Vine for the intramural championship soccer game and watched our guys ROCK some frat. People were drinking beer but I was unaware it was that kind of intramural game... Watched the DVD of the band at the talent show then headed to ugvdc to study until midnight.
Tired. It's Friday. Fuckin' super.

I heart this weather. I am so glad that I didn't have to go to med school in some hell hloe like Buffalo where the weather has been likened to Anatarctica or even La Jolla, whose foggy beauty I'd never have time to enjoy unless I were jumping off the cliffs out of frustration. It's been warm and dry and awesome for the past few days. Last physio section exam went well, especially when I inquired about female ejaculation to the somewhat outspoken endocrinology professor and he proceeded to relate and all-to-personal story basically debunking my theory that it's mostly urine that shoots out. I am thinking of recruiting talented young ladies and writing a research grant for this summer, comments are welcome on that...
March madness isn't as bad as I thought, and my March Madness beard is coming in hott. I threw up a faux-hawk today too and it looked pretty pimp. My plan is to skip town tomorrow night for the HB, eat din din wiht the 'rents, then hit Starbucks and crash at home. We get Thursday off because it's Match Day, the day when 4th year med students find out where they'll be doing their residencies. Big, scary day for them, free food, or just the day off for us. Was thinking of running on the beach then hitting up the 'brary for some qulaity time with the gluteal region. Can't wait for break, SF, Dustin, Shannon, my cousin from SF, possibly swanky wine tasting in Napa.
Oh yeah, so today I was at the research park starbucks and the (cutest) barista girl recognized me from VDC, I'd never seen her there, but we chatted, and she said she wanted to yell at me but she didnt think I recognized her (you know I would've, both because I spend too much time at coffe shops and because I spend too much time checking out hot coffee shop employees). Anyway, I might have a new lady-friend and coffee hookup (the latter being both more useful and more likely!).
I am really happy lately, both because I'm doing well in school with a lot, but not too much insane studying, and because my outside-of-school life is going well. The band is awesome, the friends here are sweet, etc. I do miss my college homies, I need to hook up with them over break, or immediately thereafter.
Oh yes, if you are reading this and are in the OC, you'll get a call from me to watch The Fever the Friday we get out of school, there will be BBQ, sloshball, beer, and music. Not sure where, last time we played on the lower Crawford field and it went off without a hitch. We'll see...

Venting blog.
I'm getting really annoyed. Not because I have a big test tomorrow and taking practice tests is frustarting the fuck out of me even though I've studied for going on 18 hours this weekend, but because of the bad quality teaching that goes on 75% of the time here. I swear some of these teachers are fucking ridiculously shitty. Some are great, but not nearly enough. Gosh! (a la Napoleon).
This is test #2 of 5 this month. The next 2 are huge, then the thirs one is pretty damn big. The last week of the quarter we have 2, and THAT will test our endurance. Tomorrow some rest must be taken otherwise I will explode. I need to catch up in 2 other classes after this test, but I also need to chop my mop and clean my toilet. My life and I are dirty.
On a brighter note, the DVD of the Fever's first performance come out next wed. That should be great. I'll post ckips when I get 'em . There also might be a BBQ/Show the friday school is out (and I drink myself uncounscious).

Fact of the day: One can become hyperthyroid (nervousness, palpitations, eyes bugged out, heat intolerance) from eating thyroid tissue. It happened in some yokel town when the local slaughterhouse mistakenly added bovione thyroid gland to a batch of ground beef.
Yay medical school.

so my last long post got deleted. i was mad.
briefly:
today was awesome. presented my dissection where i cut the pelvis in half, basically sawed from the choad to the bellybutton then over. Good stuff. then we hada bbq to close the med student olympics, had free food, watched 3 of our classmates dominate the second years in a hotdog eating contest. then everyone puked, it was great. went running, loaded up, and showed up to practice/sound hceck for the talent show. the med school talent show featuring the irvine fever, that is. we set up, checked, went to the pub and drank, then came back and ate free food. we played first, it rocked, people classped and screamed for more cowbell- i have one on my set now!! everyone did a great job, higlights included the banjo guy, a kickass fighting skit, a joke soliloquy, the Anatomy Idol skit featuring your truly on guitar with adam, hot MDivas dancing hip hop, and a binch of other really cool stuff. people were going out after but i am tired and have to study tomorrow, it's march madness after all.
the break plans: road trip to SF solo, meet d-bone and shandog, chill, then hang out on my own, meet up jill and drive home. fun.

fuck. lost a big long ass post. later...
Ahh, to all my 3 faithful blog readers, but more importantly, to myself. It's been way too long since I've written life down. Went to Vegas last weekend with about 20 of my classmates. Stayed at Excalibur, MET UP WITH MEERA!!!, drank a lot, went to Ra (decent club), puffed one cig, lost my usual $50, got smelly and went home. Lucky me got the shittiest driving shift, from Barstow to the OC. Worse: everyone sat in back and watched Office Space, so i had no one in shotgun to keep me company and I had to LISTEN to the movie without video. I can't decide if that's worse than watching with no audio. Just got back from a bday soiree in none other than Stanford Court, former home to my homies (shout out). My biddy Ross had a kickass littlr party, the first apartment party of med school. Not big, but certainly fun.
In other news, went to a bar last night (all these stories of fun lack the details of studying every moment in between the fun) and got the owner to book the Irvine Fever (when we send a phony demo of Adam's old band) for next month. The next 3 weeks are seriously going to lick my anus, but then it's spring brizzeak and my plans are thus: solo road trip to SF, chill with Dustin, meet up with a friend in the city, drive down with her, then chill the rest of the break. I need a break NOW, I can't even fathom how badly I'll need it then...
