Medical School: Day 1

Well, not actually day 1 of school, but day 1 of the experience. Woke up after an evening with the folks in which my dad toasted me at dinner, and everyone at the table shed tears for one reason or another (or a combination of many) to a truck packed and ready. rolled out to VDC (or BFE as I like to call it), signed up, moved in. This place is bigger than I thought, my bathroom is huge, there are more cabinets/drawers/nooks that I can fill. The staff is cool here, and my neigbor is a first-year. My roommate mark showed up and moved in a while later. Went to the dentist, had no cavities, and he shaved a tooth so it's easier to floss between 32 and 33 now ?? Came back, grabbed more stuff from home, returned to VDC. They said 90 people were moving in, we saw 8. The place is a ghost town, it's weird. They replaced some plastic "yellow poles" at 5:00 on our "street" and locked a Benz inside. Our road is like Main St USA at Disneyland, it's made of beicks and no cars can actually use it, it's weird. Mark and I went to Target, Albertsons, and TJ's, then came back and drank Coors lights on the patio. We ran into our neighbor's girlfriend who told us he was all paranoid about school and about her spending the night. We laughed and told them to come over for a beer. They did, we had some more, and hung out. they left because Jen wanted to use the bathroom but didn't want to ask us to use ours (?) so Mark and I watched American Wedding, which was not good. Lotsa fake boobs though. Crashed on my new stiff matress...

Last Monday what I thought was going to be the last relationship I had ended. I can't even describe the feelings going on. I am a walking amputee, I feel like part of my body has been removed, but the phantom pains are still there. The worst part is that the pain is self inflicted...

I'm not sure if anyone even reads this anymore, but I guess that's not my concern. It has been a really crazy week and I am about ready to break down. Tomorrow I move out of my parents' house for the last time, move back to UCI, and start a new phase of my life. I literally feel as if I have chosen Buffalo. It feels so foreign.

I hung out with the old roomies for a night, then spent 3 consecutive nights (donwtown HB-ugh, Angels Game, Chillin' at Evan's) with the "HB CREW" as Mat says, doing what you do in the HB. It wore me out but also took my mind off of real life, which I really needed.

I have met my new roommate and they matched us up well, except that he might be a little more party-inclined than I, but who knows, after the rigors of med school I may get back into the mood...

The new place is going to be sick, the new life scary, the lonliness difficult, but my mom says I'll be fine, and that's all I need to hear. Moms are always right (about the really important stuff).

Hopefully my convoluded emotional hairball will soon unwind and I can be myself again, especially with all the first year med student bonding/socializing ahead.

Back in London (thankk God). It's hot and sticky. I don't feel like typing too much. Maybe I'll put up some pics, or check Mat's blog. Can't wait to get home!
